Diary Entry Writing.

Diary Entry Writing.

-         Make sure to read the question carefully. Underline exactly what you are being asked to do.
-         Always take heed of the marking scheme, how many marks are awarded for the question?; this will help to decide the length of your answer.
-         Are you being asked to write one diary entry or more than one?
-         Brainstorm and plan your answer.
-         Make sure the date(s) of your diary entry are correct, i.e. does the question ask you to write in the context of ten years ago or twenty, or even from the perspective of a different century? Ensure your writing is set in the correct context.
-         Greet your diary, give it a name to personalize it, e.g. “Dear Sarah,”
-         Remember, you diary entry records what you saw, thought, feel, hope, fear, etc. It must be in the first person narration and be deeply personal, reflecting the persona you are portraying and his/her circumstances.
-         You may be asked to imagine you are someone else, so be empathetic, i.e. “jump into her/his shoes.”
-         Sign off your diary entry, e.g. “I have to go now… Mary.”
-         Read over your work when finished and correct any mistakes you may have made.
